Europe Wants to Mandate USB-C, Apple Objects

Recently, there's been a proposal coming from the EU to mandate USB-C ports on all devices, including smartphones, tablets, cameras, and headphones. Manufacturers will also be forced to make fast charging standards interoperable. If this proposal is voted into law, manufacturers will have 24 months to comply. These new rules would affect Apple the most, because despite adopting USB-C for the MacBook Air and Pro as well as some iPad models, they are still using their proprietary Lightning port on the latest iPhone. While the EU stated that this proposal will reduce electronic waste and provide convenience for consumers, Apple objected by saying that mandating a single connector would discourage innovation and harm consumers.
